Chaplain E-Learning Release
Serving as a chaplain in a Boy Scout unit provides a unique opportunity for ministry. The BSA maintains that no member can grow into the best kind of citizen without recognizing an obligation to God. ScoutingU has developed three chaplain online learning modules to train volunteers who serve in this role:
• The Role of the Unit Chaplain and Chaplain Aide
• Religious Emblems, Awards, and Advancements
• Interfaith Considerations
The Role of the Unit Chaplain and Chaplain Aide module discusses the qualifications and duties of a unit chaplain as well as identifying unit worship opportunities. The Religious Emblems, Awards, and Advancements module will help you understand
and learn about the religious emblems available in the BSA. This module also explains what is needed to get a unit started in the BSA’s Religious Emblems program as well as what is needed to complete the Religious Award.
The Interfaith Considerations module will help you understand how to set the spiritual tone of a Scout meeting. This module will explore various unit worship opportunities, but most importantly, you will be able to recognize basic interfaith considerations and
appropriate materials for your Scouts.
Anyone serving in a chaplain position should be registered as such using the appropriate position code for the unit, district, or council. You may be dual enrolled in this position and any other position. The chaplain content is available around-the-clock on the BSA Learn Center by logging into My.Scouting.org. As always, ScoutingU continually strives to provide the content you need when you need it.
